About Me

Hey, what’s up?

I’m Alex, an extremely lucky 18-year-old with a passion for the outdoors and discovery and the creator of randomadventures.net

I was born in Seattle to Australian parents and raised in the city of Issaquah for the first 16 years of my life before my parents made the decision to move to Luxembourg in June of 2018. Two months and five flights across the Atlantic Ocean later, I found myself in a new country, perfectly situated to explore. I’ve had the privilege of being presented with some pretty incredible opportunities, and I wanted to make the best of them.

I grew up hiking, backpacking, and exploring, and over the past two years alone, I’ve had the fortune to visit 15 countries. I want to write about some of my experiences before I forget, and give myself something to look back on as I spend at least the next 4 years of my life in Australia pursuing a BEng.

Why do I like the outdoors so much?

When you are raised at the edge of a mountain range by a lake, hiking, backpacking, swimming, and skiing are facets of life right there for you to enjoy. If I had to explain myself, I’d tell you I’m addicted to wandering through beautiful areas and the stark relief it adds to life, but that’s just a poor translation of the true sense of wonder I feel when confronted with a corner of the beauty the world possesses. I’ve had the privilege to explore some stunning alpine territory in Austria, Slovenia, France, and Iceland to add to my experience of trekking in the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Rockies, and I’m hoping to share some of what I’ve seen with you!

What else am I proud of?

A passion for science and music combined with a good dose of opportunity has allowed me to participate in a few incredible international experiences, including the AMIS International Honour Band hosted in Salzburg in 2019 and BIYSC (Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge), I participated in the Luxembourgish government’s Jonk Fuerscher (Young Researchers) competition in 2020 and was sponsored to attend ISSI Weizmann, a month-long research experience for young university age students held in Israel.
